Concierge Pharmacist - Remote Care Provider

Founder and Chief DiaBuddy Officer, Ken Sternfeld, is a lifelong dreamer who believes that there is more to get out of life when you focus on helping others. Helping people is his passion. As a Jewish man, growing up with loving parents who had a strong belief in God, Ken continued to share the Jewish culture and religion with his own family.

Dealing with life-changing business and physical health issues as a result of COVID-19, and after deep reflection, he made the decision to get baptized at 70 years old and now serves the Lord.

As a son of a Pharmacist, he was inspired by the way his father treated his customers when he visited the store in Jamaica, Queens. Customers of Merrick Pharmacy were always looking to him for help with their medications and the management of their health, even before they went to the doctor. They called him 'Doc,' and Ken was proud of his father, who was helping members of the community.

As a practicing Pharmacist, following in his dad's footsteps, Ken spent ten years at CVSHealth and was a Paragon Winner two years in a row, plus was in their corporate Emerging Leader Program. Despite all those 'metric-driven' business leadership trainings, Ken felt there was a huge 'gap in care' in their overall culture relative to how they treated their employees.

Ken was struggling to deal with the loss of several loved ones to a variety of chronic diseases, so in late 2014, he dove deep into the new Medicare Chronic Care Management (CCM) program that was introduced in 2015. The original program did not include Pharmacists as providers of this service, so along with other patient-centric Pharmacists, Ken wrote a letter to CMS asking for inclusion in the CCM program as a recognized provider of that service and the first billing code CPT99490.

When affirmation and approval from CMS were given, Ken immediately implemented CCM services in the office of his own physician, Dr.Michael Goodman, a MDVIP provider in Bellmore, Long Island. It was at that practice that the 'Concierge Pharmacist' was born on Pharmacy Fridsys.

After developing two new business models (RXVIP Concierge & CareOne-Concierge), Ken decided that he didn't want to chase the code and stepped aside from those initiatives as they didn't align with his passion and purpose. Both organizations serve the patients with quality services today, and Ken is proud of his contributions to those companies, as he has had the pleasure of mentoring several members of their senior management teams, along with dozens of their employees. The direction that those companies were taking just didn't match Ken's career aspirations, so he moved on.

Sadly, his brother Steven lost his battle with diabetes and the other conditions that evolved, so Ken has dedicated my life and career to honor his life and the life of my dad, by helping others deal with the challenges and hurdles presented daily by this horrific disease.
